Intresting experiment

I found this article on YAHOO! i wonder if it really works... kind of seems like a cool idea... Kerri, your the next one to try it!!!

PARIS (AFP) - Oysters may excite the libido, but there is nothing like a hearty breakfast laced with sugar to boost a woman's chances of conceiving a son, according to a study released Wednesday.

Likewise, a low-energy diet that skimps on calories, minerals and nutrients is more likely to yield a female of the human species, says the study, published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, Britain's de facto academy of sciences.

Fiona Mathews of the University of Exeter in Britain and colleagues wanted to find out if a woman's diet has an impact on the sex of her offspring.

So they asked 740 first-time mothers who did not know if their unborn foetuses were male or female to provide detailed records of eating habits before and after they became pregnant. The women were split into three groups according to the number calories they consumed per day around the time of conception.

Fifty-six percent of the women in the group with the highest energy intake had sons, compared to 45 percent in the least-well fed cohort.

Beside racking up a higher calorie count, the group who produced more males were also more likely to have eaten a wider range of nutrients, including potassium, calcium and vitamins C, E and B12.

The odds of an XY, or male outcome to a pregnancy also went up sharply "for women who consumed at least one bowl of breakfast cereal daily compared with those who ate less than or equal to one bowl of week," the study reported.

These surprising findings are consistent with a very gradual shift in favor of girls over the last four decades in the sex ratio of newborns, according to the researchers.

Previous research has shown -- despite the rising epidemic in obesity -- a reduction in the average energy uptake in advanced economies. The number of adults who skip breakfast has also increased substantially.

"This research may help to explain why in developed countries, where many young women choose low calorie diets, the proportion of boys is falling," Mathews said.

The study's findings, she added, could point to a "natural mechanism" for gender selection.

The link between a rich diet and male children may have an evolutionary explanation.
For most species, the number of offspring a male can father exceeds the number a female can give birth to. But only if conditions are favourable -- poor quality male specimens may fail to breed at all, whereas females reproduce more consistently.

"If a mother has plentiful resources, then it can make sense to invest in producing a son because he is likely to produce more grandchildren than would a daughter," thus contributing to the survival of the species, explains Mathews.

"However, in leaner times having a daughter is a safer bet."

While the mechanism is not yet understood, it is known from in vitro fertilisation research that higher levels of glucose, or sugar, encourage the growth and development of male embryos while inhibiting female embryos.

When i was little we use to go to the Science Center. One of the things they had for you to watch was the dissection of a cow eye. I always thought it was soo super cool!!! They would let us come and put a glove on and poke it when they were done. Ever since i saw them do it, i have ALWAYS wanted to do it myself!! i had no clue that my dream was going to come true!!!!!

for lab we had to learn about the eye and got to dissect... a cow eye!!! i was soooo excited. the girls at my table are girly and didn't want to touch it so i got to do all the work!!! it was the coolest thing!!! Cutting into it... pulling away the retina.. pulling out the lens.. touching the jelly stuff that i can't remember the name of so i need to study..... I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!! college is the best.

You really should dream cuz it can come true!!!!!!

My other dream is to dissect a human body.... someday ... someday!

RRRRR matey!

The pirate part was a hit!!!! my bestest friends chantel and angel and booka (joslin chantel's daughter) came up and spent the weekend with me. Here are all the pictures we took.. everyone dressed up as a pirate.. we all played pin the eye patch on the pirate.. then we all went on a savenger/treasure hunt around thatcher. Then we all went and hit the pinata..well that didn't go so well since we only spent a dollar on it... and i just realized we never took a picture of our master piece. we made the jolly roger out of tissue paper.. it was very cool.. then we all ate cake and had a dance party!! best party i've ever had!!!!

I'm 20!

Another year has come and gone. I am no longer a teenager! 20 years old. 2 decades! wow...

i remember when i was little, cable only has 100 channels.. now there or at least 600including all the movies channels.

I remember when i was little and cell phones were big and ugly and only rich people had them... now they come in all shapes sizes and colors and everyone has one.. including joel's 8 year old brother!!

I remember when saturday had really really cool cartoons now all the shows are lame.

I remember when Aladdin came out.. and scared the poop out of me... now they have shows like Meet the Robinsons... which made me laugh out loud!! No more hand drawings for Disney movies.

I remember when i would tag along with my sisters and bro and try and do everything they did.... well i guess that's still the same =]

I remember living at home and getting excited that i got $5 to spend on candy... well getting $5 and spending that on candy is still the same (thanks grandma!) but the living at home is different.

I remember going to Barcelona and playing on the playgroud.. now i go to college and have to take really hard tests.

Some where to live...

Syliva and sarah and i drove to chandler on sat to go apartment hunting. We founf 2 we really liked... but weren't sure what one we wanted. Then we went to see my aunt marsha and she looked up places to rent on MLS listing. We found the CUTEST patio house!!! It's so cute and perfect for us. It has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. It has a washer and dryer in it. It has a huge living room. The fireplace doesn't look dumb in it. It has black and white checkered tile. The master bed room is big and has 2 closets and the bathroom in it. The guest room is tiny with one closet and connects to the guest bathroom. this girl carrie is moving in with us and we all thought that she could have her own room and we could get bunk beds and have syls twin bed in the master. Right now we are in the process of sending in the applications and deposits. WE HOPE we get it!!! It has 2 covered parking and guest parking right in front of it. It's on the end so we only have one neighbor. It has a community pool. It's so cute and nice. It's in gilbert which is where we were looking. we have a bunch of friends out there already and sarahs cousin who just got home from his mission lives there. It's close to community school and theres a lot of stuff around for us to find jobs at.

things you do in a small town

My future roommate syliva came over and we were finishing filling out our applications for our patio house. Since i will be needing a twin mattress and she wants a new box sping we thought we would go to VAL's funiture because they are closing their store, so we thought we could get a good deal.

We took batman becuase it, like a mile from howards and we like to ride him. WE went in and looked. Sadly it was still $249 for the set. We thought we should buy it and split the cost but neither of us has $125 for it now and the sell ends on sat. This kid who knew syl came over and talked to us. He was like, your going to buy a mattress? didn't you come here on a moped??? hahaha we laughed and told him we were just looking not buying.

Then we left and saw a TON of smoke in the sky. Syl said, lets go see what's on fire! I was like hmm ok!!! So we pointed batman in the direction of the fire. IT was way closer then we thought. I was by the river in a grove of trees. I made syl give me her phone so we could call the fire deparment. Thankful someone had already called and they were on their way. WE wanted to drive closer but another car was going out to see it so we just parked off to the side to watch. while we were there about 7 cars came to see what was going. One of them stopped to talk to us. they were working and just thought they would come see it. Some were our age, some were old. IT was on a road that no one ever goes on so we know they were all there to see the fire. Small towns- gotta love it!

After that we went to wellness and worked out then drove batman to subway and spilt the cost of the $5 footlong subs. That is an amazing deal!!!

NINJAS!!

So this kid that lives next door to us decide one day to throw water balloons at my roommate kali. Then he came over and got a squirt bottle and squirted all of us in the face. sarah got him with a water balloon that made him look liked he peeed (how do you spell pee in the past tense???) and i got him over the head so he was soaking wet.

Then the next day i was walking to my door after getting home from school and i get 2 water balloons thrown at me. It just barely got on me but still!! Then later that night we were eating dinner and someone knocked on the door. We called to come in and this lady we had never seen opened the door and said, "sorry but does someone here drive a brown van?" Sarah said that she did (i said nope no one cuz forgot sarah drove the brown van hehe). The lady asked her if she would come out cuz she hit it with her car. sarah was like ohh ok and walked out. THen next thing i know sarah is SCREAMING and i hear laughing. Sarah comes into the house soaking wet. Josh was upstairs and had asked some random lady to come say that to get sarah out so he could get her with the balloons. I laughed really hard!!!! He later got kali wet as well.

I called nate (bro-in- law) for some pranks i could pull on the dude. He gave us some REALLY good ideas but the kids roommates weren't working with us so we couldn't do any of them. so we dressed up in our ninja outfits and while he was playing in his institute basketball game, kali sarah and i drove batman to the institute and whited out all of his windows with window chalk. We thought we were sooo sneaky =]

FINALLY!!

We finally made it to the hot springs!!! Thatcher is surrounded by natural hot springs and i had yet been inside one. Since kim came to school here i've had a list of things she would talk about that i wanted to experience for myself.. I'm the little sister so i have to do what my sister did. That's the story of my life. BUT i've been wanting to go, we just never got around to it. My next door neighbor lyndee, her family "runs" the manison so she can get us in without us having to sneak in. We did sneak in when we went to see the manison and it's really creepy!! The one time we went a bunch of people were sneaking in and the caretaker didn't want us there. So we just hadn't made it back since. Lyndee has an older brother and my roommates boyfriend is best freinds with him and they all go all the time. Well finally they invited us to go with them. me joel jess morgan craig kalise emily jason and sarah all went. The mansion ( sadly it burned down last month) has a couple around it. One is an olympic size pool with a little one next to it. They also have another little one and a gutair shaped one. We went to the olympic one. It's amazing how hot they are!!! it's kind of gross because it has moss all inside but it's tons of fun. We had fun swimming the huge pool. We all found out that there was no way any of us could be olympic swimmers =/ I'm just happy i finally get to say i've been to the hot tubs. I don't know if we will be back any time soon but at least i got that checked off my list =] =] =]

Taylor turns 22

We all went to R&R for a surprise brithday party for my next door neighbors boyfriends birthday. we all ate pizza and had basketball cupcakes. Birthdays are always fun up here. Sarah and mine is going to be the greatest though!! We are throwing a combined party on the 19th. Since mine is on the 18th and hers is on the 22 we thought we would just do it in the middle.. but not on the 18th cuz that's my day =]! We have bought a ton of fun stuff. we also are making everyone dress up as pirates!! All of us have made our costumes for the party. We are also going to go on a teasure hunt!!! It's going be the greatest party ever!!!
